From Molly To Rizzo (Fancy Dress Costume & Makeup)

I am in no shape or form a party animal - hell to the no. But when it comes to a work 'end of season party' that's themed fancy dress 'Hollywood and the Movies' I couldn't resist but drag myself out of my bedroom and make an effort to be sociable for once - aha.

I knew from the word go that Grease was my option for a character just because it's one of my all time favourite films and I am in LOVE with the 1970's vibe it gives off and the fashion all the girls wear.

Unfortunately quite a few people had the same idea as me and pretty much half of the team are going as someone from Grease so I knew I needed to choose a character not so obvious like Sandy for example - so after a looooong time of costume research and changing my mind many many times I decided upon Rizzo!

Firstly her costume is pretty cool and secondly she is like the complete opposite in personality to me. Shes cool, outgoing and bad ass - and if theres any time in your life you can be someone completely different to yourself - it's definitely a fancy dress party.

I'm pretty nervous about the whole costume, hair and makeup malarcy as I'm doing it all entirely on my own (most likely with my Mum watching over me and hopefully ironing my costume for me haha) and admittedly I'm not the best at makeup or hair styles so it could go either way..

So heres a quick little insight into what products I used to transform myself into Rizzo (or the closest to her as I could on my own) to hopefully inspire anyone else out there to give fancy dress a go!

I started off by washing my hair the day before as 'second day' hair is a lot easier to work with - especially if you have thick hair like me.
To ensure my hair would still be looking clean and shiny for the second day (and the day of the party) I used the Loreal Elvive Full Restore hair masque - and it worked wonders!

The day of the party I did a quick and easy skin care routine in the morning which just consisted of a Simple Face mask and Simple Moisturiser afterwards - just to ensure my skin was looking and feeling its best and also nice and evened out ready for applying makeup a bit later on.

I also painted my toe nails a (horrible) bright reddy/pink shade as I'm wearing toeless shoes which will later match in with my lipstick.

I started my hair and makeup around two hours before I had to leave for the party - just so I knew I had plenty of time for things going wrong and starting again etc.

I used all the products shown above to start off the makeup, which is just my normal everyday routine. This helped just to cover up blemishes and even out my skin tone - as well as making me feel a bit more normal and confident haha.
(I used a beauty blender sponge for blending out the concealer and foundation and a B blush/contour brush for the Barry M bronzer).

Now I'm not one to ever ever wear a red lip - as much as I would like to have the confidence to to do it's not really my thing but when it came to dressing up as Rizzo I knew I would have to brave it.

I went with the Kate Moss in the shade 01 'Red Nose Red' which is quite a nice vintage shade of red and matches the shade Rizzo wears in the film almost exactly!
(applying a red lip is SO much harder than I thought it would be oh my goodness...)

Before applying mascara I decided to add a bit of a natural browny/pink shaded eye shadow which I tried to match as best I could with a picture of Rizzo I found online - I used the two shades below from the 'Revolution Salvation Palette.'
(I also applied the Collection Primed & Ready' primer on my eyelids before the eye shadow just to try and help it last longer during the evening).

Moving onto hair (which you can kind of see a sneak peak of in the photo above...) - which is something of a nightmare for me.
I've quite recently had it cut fairly short (sat on my shoulders) but although it's short that doesn't stop it being mega mega thick.
I'm one of those people that have to straighten their hair in about five different sections - which believe me is a nightmare when you're in a rush in the mornings!
So for Rizzo I decided to do my hair not as short as hers but still the same sort of style.
I put it into sections to start with and then curled small-medium pieces of hair it quite tightly using my Andrew Barton curling wand.
I did this all over until all sections were curled but still wasn't overally satisfied with it as it looked kind of flat on top so I sprayed a bit of TRESemme Max The Volume Creation Hairspray (which can I just say is one of the best volume products I think I've ever used on thick hair) onto the underneath parts of my roots and then scrunched it all up into my hands and repeated this all over the top of my hair until it became big and bouncy.

And this was the end result...

I'm actually really pleased with how the overall look went especially as I did it all completely on my own!
I also love the retro vibe of the whole outfit and it's also kind of made me want to wear red lipstick on a daily basis (but maybe toned down just a tad...).

So there you have it!
My first ever fancy dress party - and my first ever go at doing my own costume/makeup.

Let me know who you've gone as to a party before - and how it went!

P.S I hit 2000 followers on my blog Twitter account a few days ago which is insane but amazing! So thanks to all you cuties that follow me.
I'm thinking of MAYBE doing a little giveaway to celebrate the moment so leave some ideas below on what sorts of things I could giveaway (I'm thinking some of Gabbie's stationary range, some of the new Zoella Beauty range or maybe just something simple like a - brand new obviously - dupe of the lipstick I used above for the Rizzo look? It's a lovely autumnal shade which I think a lot of you red-lip wearers will appreciate.
Anyway let me know!
