Bedroom Tour - Spring/Summer Edition #3

Summer crept up on us all a bit quick hey?
It feels like just last month I was buying Christmas decoration for my bedroom, and decorating everything with ribbons and little wooden reindeers.
Crazy crazy crazy.
And my 'I'll get healthy ready for Summer' plan has completely packed itself a suitcase and jetted off to some place far far away.
Oops.

But on the up side my bedroom is now looking fresh, light and summery (the Christmas decorations all packed away...sadly) and although I haven't changed too much in the way of style or ornaments, I have bought a few new bits and bobs and moved my furniture around which has given the whole room a bigger and more open feel, yet still cosy in the evenings - perfect!

If you have read my other two Bedroom Tour posts you will already know I stick to a light and lightly touched shabby chic style all around the room, and then each season I try to take away and add bits all with this style in mind so my room fits in with the current time of year.
(I also have a few subtly Harry Potter features around just because it's my most favourite thing, hehe).

I'll start off with these kind of 'home-made' daffodil fairy lights...

I love how this turned out and how it looks in general.
The fairy lights have quite a cold feel to them as they have white bulbs instead of yellow, so to give them a warmer and more Spring/Summer feel I added some fake daffodils - one next to each light - to cover up the Wintery feel of the lights and make it look a lot prettier, (and it also saved me from having to spend money on new Summer fairy lights - bonus).
The fake daffodils are ones I bought from Etsy a couple of years ago, and they originally came on sticks so I had them in a plant pot looking pretty on the window sill for a good year or so, but thought this fairy light idea suits them so well.
I'm really pleased with the overall outcome and its something that can be so easily done at home with fairy lights and any fake flowers of your choice!
An alternative if you're not a flower fan or fancy something a bit different is to do this with some pretty bunting flags.

The overall layout of my bedroom has also changed a little bit.
By simply swapping my desk and chest of drawers over my room is now much more open by the door giving it a bigger feel when walking in. I've also managed to store my exercise bike in the new layout without it being too in the way or obvious.

My desk area is now at the bottom of my bed...

I have placed my TV here for easy viewing in bed, along with my lamp, my orchids, cactus' and diary.
I feel like all these things together really compliment each other and the flowers and cactus' especially have a nice natural and Spring-like feel to them.

A flower pot from Ikea makes a great holder for controllers and remotes and also looks great!
I bought a few of these in white and pastel green and have them dotted around holding different items and they are such a nice and pretty edition to my bedroom - and fit in with the shabby chic style.

My chest of drawers is now under my mirror and used for not only keeping my clothes in but also doubles as a kind of dressing table on the top.
I keep all my makeup and cosmetic items here so I can easily get to them when looking in the mirror in the mornings.

To see my full makeup storage see my previous post on it all by clicking on the photo above :)

Feature walls are one of my favourite things with interior decorating as I feel like having one can really show the style of the room and say a lot about it.
My bedroom has two pastel green walls and two cream walls.
The biggest wall is one of the green ones and is my feature wall.
I have scattered framed photos across the wall some in white and some wooden.
In the frames I've put some of my favourite photos of family, friends, pets, slogans and a few little quirky hanging ornaments.

I love this feature wall, and I try to keep it updated with new photos and bits and pieces as the year goes along.
For example during Christmas time I normally add a few fairy lights and tree decorations, however for this time of year I've gone for light-hearted slogans which catch the eye to help add character to the room.

Now when it comes to my bed, I'm a little bit of a cushion fanatic.
Every time I go shopping I nearly always come home with a new cushion for my bed and as I only have a single bed, it's pretty much 90% pillows now, not that I'm complaining!

The bright patterned one you may notice from my Primark Haul a few posts back, and for only £5 it really brightens up my bed!
(If you would like to read my Primark Haul click on the image above)
It's the perfect style for Spring and Summer and looks great pride of place in the middle of my bed.
Ad you can probably tell I also love cushion with letters on, they are quirky and cute and also fit in with the framed slogans on the feature wall above my bed.
I have M for my name and K for my boyfriends name :)
I try to keep my beddings and cushions fairly light but have added in a few darker ones for a more cosy feel especially in the evening times. I've also added a light green through for the bottom of my bed for cosyness and it fits in perfectly with the other pastel green items dotted around the room.
Lets just say making my bed in the morning is a marathon (theres sixteen cushions in case you were wondering...hehe).

How have you been decorating your room for Spring and Summer?

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation - Before & After

Before & After

Foundation is an on-going battle which I feel like almost every girl goes through - theres so much to think about and try to figure out.

Colour
Shade
Skin type
Texture
Does it blend into my neck?
Does it look orange?
etc etc etc need I go on?

I've only started using foundation everyday for about a year and a half (I'm 20 so kind of joined the bandwagon VERY late) and in that time have used about four different types and brands to try and find one that suits me properly and one I feel confident to wear knowing it looks good.

And FINALLY,  I think its happened.
Either I've done something right in life or miracles do really exist (slight exaggeration - only slight) as I've discovered this...

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation AKA the best frickin piece of makeup I've ever purchased.

I came across this through a friend of my sisters who bought it, tried it, loved and raved to us about it and now we both love it too!

The hardest part of foundation buying for me was finding the correct shade and knowing that it matched my skin perfectly (I am extremely naturally pale, so always felt like foundation was too dark for me) but Estee Lauder make it easy for you to find the correct one that literally is the same colour as your natural skin.

I made a trip into town to the big Boots shop to go to the Estee Lauder stand especially to get my skin tested for this foundation - thinking I would be spending a good half an hour at the stand but was literally in and out within ten minutes or so, which is amazing for anybody who wants to do the same before or after work/college.

They  test your skin by taking off a patch of your current makeup (if you're wearing any) and holding a phone-like tester up to your skin which registers the shade and then tells you which Estee Lauder foundation matches your skin!
Amazing!
Honestly - showing my age or not - technology these days really does blow my mind.

For me it was Ivory Nude 1N1 which the lady told me is one of the lightest shades it comes in (no surprise to me).
They then point you in the direction of the foundation, you buy it, and you leave, hey presto you're done!
As easy and simple as that, and so worth it, and I genuinely felt like the lady in the shop wanted me to find the correct shade not just sell me the product and move onto the next person which made the whole thing a nice experience, especially as I was kind of worried about going.

So I thought I would just show you a quick insight on how good this foundation makes my skin look, so you can see for yourself is you're looking for a new flawless finish foundation.

Ahhh, probably a never seen before photo on my blog - me without ANY makeup or products on my face at all. Au natural.
As you can see I have blemishes around my chin and nose and my skin tone is uneven due to red patches on my cheeks, nose and forehead.

Before putting any makeup on I always first wash my face (whether this is in the shower or simply just with a wet flannel) and then moisturise using the Simple Illuminating Radiance Cream.
My point is that the foundation goes on so easily over a moisturiser which straight away is a good sign, as I know that some clump up or don't go on as nicely.

The next stage for me is concealer. I've been using a new one recently which is the Maybelline Cover Up Stick in the shade Vanilla (it looks a bit like a lipstick which believe me is confusing when your're putting on makeup early in the morning before work).
I put this under my eyes, around my nose and my chin to cover up the redder patches.
The foundation also glides easily over this even though the consistency of the concealer is completely different to the foundation by being a lot thicker.

This is the overall finished look!
Bear in mind this is simply just concealer, foundation, a natural lipstick and mascara which is what I usually wear on a daily basis to work, so theres so contouring or bronzer etc.
As you can see, compared to the first photo my skin tone is now completely evened out, without any red patches or blemishes.
My chin and nose which are my worst areas look smooth and blemish free!
I also love how my neck completely matches my face without any horrible visible foundation lines or an obvious change in colour.
The bags under my eyes which I have naturally are also covered.

I LOVE this foundation.
The coverage it give is buildable.
I personally like a thin layer and only really build it up when I'm going out or wearing a more 'colourful' makeup look with eyeshadow and contour etc.
Only a small amount is needed as well throughout, meaning the bottle should last a long time - which is beneficial for your bank as this foundation is not the cheapest!
(Linked below)
I also find with this that it lasts all day. I had an extremely busy and hot day at work last week and was meeting a couple of friends straight afterwards so took the bottle with me to touch up my face before going out, but none was needed! Even in the heat it stayed on my face and didn't look any different from when I left in the morning - amazing!!

Overall this foundation is one I 100% recommend and it completely worth the money. I would advise to go to an Estee Lauder stand and get your skin shade tested properly though as you want to get the correct shade for your money!
